Space-Saving Calyx Is Latest Addition To Cabuchon Range
British bath manufacturer Design & Form Limited has announced the launch of the Calyx space-saving deep soaking tub, the latest addition to its Cabuchon Bathforms range.
Available in two standard sizes, the Calyx is a Minimalist version of two of the company’s most popular Japanese-style products - the Imersa and the ergonomically sculpted Nirvana. Like these longer established models, the Calyx requires much less water to fill than a conventionally shaped bath and takes up significantly less floor space. In it, the bather is submerged to the upper chest and adopts a relaxed posture as if seated in a reclining armchair.
Important new developments featured within the Calyx are its simple lines, which respond to an increasing consumer trend towards Minimalist styling, and the optimisation of internal space. The new design preserves the classical deep soaking characteristics of the traditional Japanese Ofuro tub but yields an increase in water surface area of nearly 30% when compared to the Imersa.
The 630mm internal depth and the incorporation of a seat mean that the smaller Calyx requires only 177 litres to fill, which is substantially less than an ordinary bath and less than any other deep soaking tub in the Cabuchon range. Both sizes are suitable for use with overhead showers and bath screens.
The Calyx may be used as a freestanding bath, with or without an external step, or it can be sunk into the floor or a deck.
The Calyx is handmade and custom-built using Ficore®, a solid composite material originally trademarked and developed by Design & Form Limited to offer a number of advantages over more conventional materials. It is stronger and more rigid than any non-metal or stone bath but, unlike both, it is neither heavy nor liable to chipping. Highly durable, Ficore carries a 25 year guarantee, it permits sharpness of design detail and it exhibits superior heat insulation and energy saving properties. Tests have shown that it keeps water hot more than six times longer than acrylic and more than twelve times longer than vitreous enamelled metal, so it keeps the user feeling comfortable and obviates the need for frequent refilling.
Each tub is made to order so it can be produced in any colour and a choice of finishes. Design & Form will match any current – and many past – sanitaryware colours in its standard pricing and, as an additional service, it will match the base colour of any tile, paint, stone or textile. Many other custom options are available and the external dimensions can often be modified to suit the space available.
“We get a lot of feedback from customers both in the UK and overseas,” notes Design & Form managing director, Tony Pontin. “The new Calyx satisfies what we see as a growing trend for Minimalist styling but, more than that – especially where commercial clients such as hoteliers and health spa managers are concerned – it also combines a luxurious bathing experience with energy-efficiency, water savings and a very effective use of space.”
The larger Calyx has external dimensions of 1440mm by 850mm (56¾" by 33½"), while the smaller unit measures 1230mm by 815mm (48½" x 32¼"). Turned on their sides, both models will pass through a standard door with a minimum width of 730mm. Taps can be mounted in any location where space permits and the overflow can be sited in any one of the three walls of the well.
Design & Form’s Cabuchon Bathforms range includes freestanding, inset/under-mounted, panelled and deep-soaking baths, all sold in standard sizes or as custom designed units. The range also includes hydrotherapy systems custom designed for each client. The company manufactures all its products in the UK and exports throughout the world.
